When Beth made her WWE debut in 2006, she immediately was surrounded by Mystery. She attacked Mickie James a few times, and Mickie, still a psycho, seemed to know her from her past. The feud was cut short, however, when Beth recieved a hard shot to the face and a broken Jaw, but the next week in an interview, Mickie revealed that she'd gone to high school with Beth, and they knew eachother from their past. The rest of this feud is a mystery.

Beth Phoenix would relive her rivalry with Mickie James upon the injury of Candice Michelle. With Beth as champion, Mickie James worked her way back up through the ranks to get to the level to challenge for the title. Mickie was pinned twice in less than a week by the Glamazon and soon we were being told that Mickie was upset that she just couldn't beat Phoenix. After an on-off feud, Mickie was finally able to get a victory over Beth in tag team action when she DDTed Victoria to get the win over Victoria and Beth. Mickie James faced off against Beth on the debut High-definition broadcast of Raw, losing to her in her hometown in a non-title match. Months later, on April 14th 2008, Mickie James got yet another chance at the Glamazon. With Beth acting overly confident and even laughing while applying a chickenwing submission on Mickie, it was unexpected that what happened would indeed happen. Beth hoisted Mickie into the air with a double armed chickenwing and as she let go, Mickie rolled under Beth's legs and caught her tightly with a rollup for the three count and the WWE Women's championship. Beth was shocked, as was the world. Mickie James had finally found a way to defeat the dominant Glamazon. Beth interrupted Mickie's title celebration the next week which included all the company's Divas. After recieving a slap from Michelle McCool that caused a riot to break out, a match was made for Backlash - Beth Phoenix' team of divas vs Mickie James' team of divas; a 12 diva tag match. Beth Phoenix went on to win that tag match by hitting a cradle suplex on Ashley just moments after taking Mickie's DDT. The next night on Raw, in a rematch from Backlash, Mickie James was the one picking up the victory. One week later, Beth used her rematch for the Women's title in a Lumberjack match that saw Beth get control of the match, only to be caught off guard with Mickie's offense. Attempting to help Beth, Melina jumped into the ring and swung her boot wildly, accidentally knocking Beth out with it and allowing Mickie to retain her belt. After the match, Beth was visibly enraged. Beth Phoenix would get another chance at the Women's championship at Judgment Day 2008 in a triple threat where she lifted both Mickie and Melina on one shoulder at the same time to attempt to get a double submission victory, but it was not to be. After a neckbreaker from Melina, it was Mickie who hit the DDT on Melina for the 3 count to keep her championship.

Beth Phoenix returned to Raw after a month off TV by defeating Santino Marella in an open challenge. This lead to them becoming a team, in a strange twist, and that lead to them both wanting WWE gold. After retaining the Women's Championship against Katie Lea, Mickie James found herself on the recieving end of a vicious attack from the Glamazon. Beth ended the assault with a Glam Slam. Beth and Santino agreed with new GM Mike Adamle that they would be in a tag team winner takes all match at Summerslam for the Women's and Intercontinental Championships against Mickie James and Kofi Kingston. Santino Marella challenged Mickie James to a match one week before Summerslam, and she accepted. Santino picked up the win only after Beth Phoenix interferred, savagely attacking Mickie and throwing her through the ropes into the ringpost. At Summerslam, Mickie James delivered a DDT to Santino and the distraction allowed Beth Phoenix to get her from behind with a double armed Chicken wing into a Glam Slam that saw Beth pick up the 3 count and the Women's Championship, as well as the Intercontinental Championship for Santino. Beth carried Santino out sitting on her shoulders holding both belts. Mickie James defeated Jillian Hall and Katie Lea in tag team action on Raw the following week.
