About Beth Phoenix - Feuds
|
Melina In 2007 Melina re-introduced the WWE audience to Beth Phoenix, allowing her to be her replacement in a tag team match, and then her regular tag team partner from then on. After a tag team match that saw Beth, Candice, Mickie James and Melina all taking part, it was announced that there would be an interbrand divas battle royal at Summerslam to determine the number one contendership to Candice Michelle's Women's Championship. After Mickie James showed there's no friends in a wrestling match by throwing Candice Michelle from the ring, Melina then threw Mickie to the outside in what would be considered an elimination in a divas battle royal, and then turned and shook Beth's hand as she and her tag partner stood tall. Beth refused to let go of Melina's hand, however, pulling her in for an intense stare before throwing her over the top rope and to the arena floor, showing that she wants to win the Women's championship. Beth went on to win the battle royal and the Women's championship while being the constant friend, ally and tag partner of Melina. On new year's eve 2007, Beth retained her Women's Championship in a three way match with Mickie James and Melina, by pinning Melina after a cradle suplex. Beth and Melina would go on to form a successful partnership for themselves, even going into wrestlemania and defeating the Playboy bunnies in Playboy bunnymania. Things would eventually turn sour between the two fiesty divas, however, when Beth was looking to regain her women's championship in a lumberjack match, Melina saw fit to interfere, but messed up and ended up costing Beth the match. The next week, Beth and Melina paired up to face Maria and Mickie James, but with tension between the two, there was no room for mess-ups. Melina's irish whip was countered and she was sent into Beth Phoenix on the apron, knocking her to the floor. Beth landed on her feet but that was the final straw, Beth had had enough of Melina's mess-ups costing her matches and titles. Beth simply walked away from the match, up the ramp and to the back as Melina fell victim to a Neckbreaker from Mickie and lost the match. Later that night, Melina was sitting with Jillian Hall putting ice on her neck when she was approached by Beth. Melina asked Beth what the hell she thought she was doing leaving her alone out in the ring, to which Beth replied that Melina cost her the WWE Women's championship last week when she hit her in the head with her boot. Beth questioned whether Melina did it by accident before saying that Melina did it because she wants the title for herself and knows that she can beat Mickie James a hell of alot easier than she can beat the Glamazon. Melina attacked Beth for the comment, but Beth grabbed her by the throat and lifted her in the air, slamming her against lockers over and over before throwing her to the floor and punching her lights out. Jillian ran away to get help and Beth was peeled off by referees. That Sunday at Judgment day, Beth ordered Melina to get out of her ring (in a triple threat women's title match), to which Melina responded with a kick to the stomach of Beth that sent her to the outside. Beth attempted to pick up the win in the match with a double canadian backbreaker on both Melina and Mickie, but to no avail as Melina took Beth out of the match with a neckbreaker before herself falling victim to a Mickie James DDT for the 3 count. Over the coming weeks it was announced that Beth Phoenix and Melina were to face off at One Night Stand in the first ever Women's I quit match. Melina gave commentary for Beth vs Maria, in which Beth displayed her new "Glam Slam" finisher. Melina attacked Beth when she was on her way to the back after winning, but to no avail as the Glamazon threw Melina to the ground. Beth then gave commentary for Melina vs Jillian Hall, in which Melina picked up the victory with a California Dream submission move. In one of the most anticipated matches of the past 2 years for the women, Beth Phoenix and Melina met in an I quit match at One night stand. The match was deemed by many to be the divas match of the year, or perhaps the last few years, and it was a very psychological bout with both divas trying to out-wit the other. Melina took it to Beth like nobody before her, getting submission after submission and almost taking the Glamazon out. Melina gave Beth a top rope facebuster before the California dream was locked in. Beth overpowered Melina, however, heaving her to the edge of the ring and out of it as opposed to simply tapping out. Melina seemed to have Beth grounded with a cross arm breaker, but Beth lifted Melina into the air with one arm and powerbombed her down onto her back and neck before hitting the Glam Slam and rocking chair submission. With Melina reluctant to quit to the submission, Beth released the hold and locked it in again, this time by pulling Melina's head back to touch her feet. Melina soon quit, having been almost broken in half. The next night, in tag team action, it was Melina and Mickie James who would lose to Beth Phoenix and Katie Lea. Melina seemed focused on Beth throughout, demanding the tag when Beth got in the ring. Melina launched herself at Beth like a hellcat, taking Beth out of the ring running for cover. Beth soon clobbered Melina, though, and stopped her in her tracks. In the coming weeks, Beth faced off against Mickie James, and lost due to a top rope lou thesz and a rollup. Post-match, Beth attacked Mickie, but Melina ran out and savaged the Glamazon, pulling her hair and dragging her from pillar to post. Melina maneuvered into a top rope facecrusher on Beth that would see her grounded. Beth was visibly seething with rage. Melina suffered a broken heel in the coming weeks that would see her written out of action, but when she returns, she's sure to want a piece of the Glamazon. These two have issues that are not yet settled, and with Beth once again holding championship gold, it makes her more of a target for the Papparazzi's favourite diva.
